Efficacy of Interpositional Arthroplasty with Temporalis Myofascia Flap in Treatment of TMJ Ankylosis

چکیده
Surgical intervention by resection of the ankylotic mass through gap arthroplasty alone resulted in reankylosis. Attempts have been made to prevent such reankylosis with interpositional arthroplasty. Numerous materials have been interposed between the resected bone surface and articular fossa at the base of the skull. Alloplastic materials such as silicone, silastic, proplast, Teflon, rubber prosthesis, metals, methyl methacrylate; and autogenous material such as full thickness skin, dermis, fascia, auricular cartilage, fat, Lyodura, costochondral graft, metatarsals, metacarpophalangeal joint transfer, sternoclavicular joint transfer and temporalis muscle and fascia have been used [5,6].

Treatment of temporomandibular joint ankylosis with temporalis superficial fascia flap.
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis is characterized by the formation of bony or fibrous mass, which replaces the normal articulation and limitation of mouth opening. This study aims to determine the efficacy of arthroplasty and interpositional fascia flap in the treatment of unilateral and bilateral TMJ ankylosis in three young adult men. Our operative protocol for unilateral and bilateral...

Management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis is challenging for the oral and maxillofacial surgeon because it involves the mouth opening, dentofacial deformity, diet problem, and quality of life. Although surgical techniques to treat TMJ ankylosis have improved, reankylosis is a persistent problem. The temporalis myofascial flap provides good material for interpositional arthroplasty, ...

The aim of the study was to assess temporalis muscle flap as an interpositional material for arthroplasty in patients with temporomandibular joint ankylosis and to identify the most common cause of temporomandibular joint ankylosis. Fifty patients of different age groups, reporting to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of Armed forces Institute of Dentistry were enrolled in study. Surgic...

A case of true bilateral ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is presented. A 19-year-old male patient had a life-threatening ear infection at the age of ten resulting in a progressive restriction of his mouth opening. He presented with almost complete lack of mobility of the mandible. Surgical treatment was a resection of the ankylotic mass, interpositional temporalis composite muscl...
